I’ve posted about this before, but it cracks me up how goofy the Sopranos fandom is. It’s one of the best, most intelligent, literary, not to mention nihilistic shows of all time. A show that is brutally critical of the patriarchy, white supremacy, homophobia and even the characters themselves. And yet the fan base is full of boomers with American flag profile pictures who think when Carmela says “ugh, why is gay stuff everywhere now??” you’re supposed to agree with her.

I think I have a pretty good idea why this is, but it still makes me laugh.

The British Royal family are the Downtown Abbey version of The Sopranos. Instead of warring with other families about city contracts, they war with themselves about dividing continents. Grandma held the real power, Grandpa was a bit nutty. Instead of the sister being Tony's burden, Kate's in that role. Everyone wants to take Andrew out to the pine barrens - baddabing.
