To those who have been regularly using the tags #TootSEA and #MYToots and #MakanApaToday alongside your other tags (thank you!), I can confirm that the kbin mag @magASEAN will include your posts into the microblog *as long as* one of those tags is the first tag on your post. You can also @ the mag (and it has to be the first @ in the post)

Until the backend changes so that the scanning will be just agnostic as other fedi protocols (which is how we can follow hashtags so well), that's the current state of things. Great repost from an account i usually follow on twt. Image description: four photos of wooden stilt houses of various southeast asian traditions. While they have different looks the common features shared included the body of the house situated high above the ground, big windows, and high peaked roofs. Males & females are indistinguishable. It chatters with explosively harsh and barking quality.

Chilling with friends, i was updating them on my Raya (#Eid), which included visiting my dad's grave to read over some prayers and clean up his plot.

A friend interrupted, "I thought #Muslim​s aren't really into that sort of thing...? (ancestor stuff)"

"Ah well, Southeast Asian Muslims, Raya is sort of our quasi-Cheng Beng as well."

Another friend: "It's pretty scandalous to other Muslims, even here."

Me: "I had an American Muslim intern once. Even our cemeteries shocked her."

(Because if you're being very fundie/wahhabist about it, as our graves are meant to be reused down the line and also you're meant to eventually be anonymous until the hereafter, you're not supposed to erect permanent structures like stone enclosures)

Anyway, we went just before Raya (no real taboos, it's strictly cultural after all), and it was still under renovation and the contractors were blaring dance music before realizing that we're reading the Qur'an, lol.

Adding on to my previous post, as it will be Syawal i.e. #Raya (#Eid) season very soon (tomorrow!), the seasonal pop-up lemang stalls have arrived. The road shoulder is always a popular choice for a lorry or a van to just set up shop, and what's on stock depends on the season: durians and coconuts are commonly found this way, along with other seasonal harvests. Isn't that technically illegal? 😁
