one of the things i enjoy about #worldcinema is the journey of discovery i sometimes end up taking. a taxi driver (2017) for example, is based on real events from 1980 of which i'd never heard of. the film covers the gwagju uprising, the ramifications of which still exist today with a truth commission launched in 2020. it proved a pivotal step in south korea's journey to democracy. link to the wikipedia entry https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwangju_Uprising for anyone who's interested.
