Who is this man?

I've recently been cataloguing the papers of Frank Wise, a Labour MP, ILP member, and civil servant who worked as Director of the Soviet Union's Trade Office Centrosoyuz in the 1920s.

Amongst his papers is this photograph of an unidentified man (it isn't Frank!)

Why do we keep referring to #China, #NorthKorea, #Cuba, #Vietnam, #Laos, and the former #SovietUnion as countries of #Communism, #FarLeft policies, and even more preposterous, #Socialism?

The idea of communism is a society of economic equality where the state distributes the wealth evenly.

None of the above countries, or any country ever, fit that description.

They twisted communism into a #FarRight #dictatorship where the wealth is held by the state and the people have few human rights.

Americans do not speak the #Arabic languages like the #Russian and #chinese neighbors in the East.
To fight #Sovietunion invasion of #Afghanistan in the 1970s, the CIA recruited and trained Arabic speaking people from around the world.
The Mujahideen were fighting the Russians so they became our proxy making communication necessary.

I'm not defending the CIA. But the USA is actually rather new to war historically.

We really shouldn't consider the #SovietUnion and #China communist states. Just claiming a title does not mean it is an accurate one (NSDAP, anyone?) They're both what REAL communists call #StateCapitalist societies. There has never been a genuine communist state in all of modern history and I wish more people knew that.

But unfortunately #PoliticalTheory literacy is not very advanced in the States. Thanks a lot, #ColdWar #propaganda.
