My grandparents met as a result of the “Spanish Flu” in 1918. My grandmother was a nurse, visiting her sister in Montana. When the virus hit, she was asked to stay, as there were few medical professionals available to help the ill. My grandfather was a homesteader in the area. They were both single, despite both being close to 30 yrs old.

#OTD 1918, Anne Walsh, 43, married to labourer, was admitted to Macroom Workhouse, Co Cork with influenza she had been suffering 5 days & pneumonia that set in 2 days later.
Anne, from near Kilnamartyra, died 2 days after admission. Hers was one of last of 13 deaths of inmates admitted with #SpanishFlu to Macroom Workhouse late October-early December 1918. Most who died came from labouring class.

The increase of diseases number correlates well with the increase of the 25th cycle solar activity. The Spanish pandemic was characterized by a similar ratio, which arose about 110 years ago between 14—15 cycles and took place during the 15th cycle of solar activity growth phase.
