Just reading through this license doc about the #ZXSpectrum ROMs.
If you've never read it before, it's a conversation between Cliff Lawson of #Amstrad and Andrew Owen, where Cliff states Amstrad's position on what was formerly #Sinclair's intellectual property regarding the #Speccy.
I'd love to see something similar with #Psion. Officially allowed to distribute documentation, OS ROMs, code (decompiled or otherwise), etc.

#GAC will actually run in #ZXemul, the #ZXSpectrum #emulator for #Psion #EPOC16 (it has full #Z80 emulation). But you really need a 3mx for ZXemul to run at full #Speccy speed, and it will guzzle battery.
Still, here it is running in #MAME, for anyone who wants to see emulator-ception.

I wonder if anyone knows the original developer of the Graphic Adventure Creator (Sean Ellis), and the people who ported it to the #Speccy (Brendan Kelly), #C64 ("The Kid" Malcolm Hellon), #BBCMicro and #Acorn #Electron (both Dave Kirby)?
It would just be cool if they still had the original plans of how it worked, even if the code is long gone.

@ZXVintage I ordered one of those #EastLondonRobotics upgrade kits, though I most likely saw the ad in #Crash rather than Sinclair User.
The chips arrived secured in a plastic tube and some polystyrene, with some rudimentary instructions on how to install them.
My brother helped me with the "open #Speccy surgery", using his bed as a workbench, and we soon had the chips installed.
That was my first hardware upgrade, but definitely not the last.

#RType is the greatest game ever made, right? Right? No? Then get off my land, you pervert. It just is.
The 8-bit ports of the game were mixed: the #Amstrad got a terrible, slow, drab port; #C64 got a fun shooter that felt loosely based on the source.
But it's the #Spectrum port that really shines. More colourful than it had right to be, fast, faithful, fun. It was a weird kind of miracle: so accurate you could use your arcade learnings to do well.
A clear #Speccy win!

The weird thing about old arcade ports is how different the individual versions could be. It wasn't like today where the Xbox and PS versions are basically identical but for the button prompts.
Back in the 80s, the big 8-bit systems sometimes got completely different games!
Like Dragon Ninja... in this case, the #Amstrad is a terrible, colourful mess. The #Speccy is okay-ish. Only the #C64 seems to bear any resemblance to the source.
A Commodore win here!
