The president for research at defends transformative agreements (aka agreements) without confronting any of the serious objections to them.

For some of the serious objections to them, see e.g. the Budapest Open Access Initiative 20th anniversary statement, esp Recommendation 4 ("move away from read-and-publish agreements"). Disclosure: I helped write these objections.

Okay, cool. So researchers publishing in Advances in Therapy - a "rapid publication journal" - not only face an (Article Processing Charge) of €3,390 / AU$5,257 if they want to publish , but also a mandatory "Rapid Service Fee" of €6,250 / AU$9,693. Awesome. 🤯 💀

SN is turning off a script that worked. Setting it up (with or without ) might have been an expense. But once built & debugged, it's trivial to maintain. Agreed that SN is saying it doesn't want to help.

Also probably saying it doesn't want to automate deposits to all the other repositories to be designated by all the other fed agencies under the memo.

This is an opportunity for other pubs to steal fed-funded authors from SN.

Springer Nature will no longer help authors publishing via the subscription option to comply with the NIH PubMed Central mandate, shifting the burden back to them:
"We are getting in touch to let you know that Springer Nature will no longer be able to provide a manuscript deposition service via an automated feed for accepted manuscripts of journal articles published via the subscription route to PubMed Central (PMC) and Europe PubMed Central (EPMC)."

When newspapers write a story in which you are mentioned, various fly-by-night outfits flood you with spam emails offering to tell you framed presentations of the story in “official commemorative frames”, “suitable for display in your business or home office.”

I see that has gotten into the game. And that’s in 2022.

:
I wrote a peer review for a well-known journal, said I’m in favor of open peer review, and signed it with name and email.

Decision letter: Resubmit, my review was attached but the editor removed the above comment and my contact (looks as if I didn’t sign it).

Is it this okay for the editor to do w/o asking me? Does my very-ECR status have sth to do with it?

@academicchatter @phdstudents @eikofried (sorry, I know that’s your topic)

Oh, boy. Just like with social media, oversight costs money and no matter how much money you make, it always needs to be more on the short term, no matter how much damage it does long term. More. Precious.

So a "hacked" email account of a guest editor produced 44 retracted articles in the Arabian Journal of Geosciences. Likely many more to follow. A look at the titles would have been enough.
