#Archaeology #StandingStonesSunday The Cromlech of the Almendres, near the village of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, Portugal, dates back to the 6th millennium BC. It is the largest existing group of structured menhirs in the Iberian Peninsula. In 2018 I spent the best part of a summer’s day wandering around these astonishing structures.

Guten Morgen am #StandingStonesSunday heute mit der französischen Zollgrenze. Diese ist teilweise noch gut erhalten und bescherte dem Elsass 200 Jahre ein Goldenes Zeitalter: obwohl zu Frankreich gehörend, kümmerten sich die Könige nicht um Gebiete östlich des Vogesenkammes. Das änderte sich erst mit der Revolution von 1789.

This sea stack in Trout River, #Newfoundland is known as the Old Man. It’s unusual because of its distance from the shoreline. “The rock pillar is located almost 400 metres away from the sea and 20 metres above it. … It was formed when sea levels began to lower at the end of the last ice age, 10-13,000 years ago,” according to the website, Hidden Newfoundland. #SeaStack #StandingStonesSunday
