Just finished watching #StarTrekPicard

- everyone is so mushy in their old age
- it's a fanfic and that's probably for the best
- the writing is horrible, the new characters are hollow and things just happen out of nowhere
- the base plots for each season are quite good

Season 1: 5/10, Season 2: 3/10 (time travel and StarTrek always lead to boring episodes), Season 3: 7/10 (for embracing the fanfic)

There's a strange meta parallel between the arc of Picard's growth in #StarTrekPicard and the arc of growth in Patrick Stewart's relationship with the show.

In both cases, they both had to learn that opening up to your family is fundamental, and being guarded and stoic etc only takes you so far.

Jonathan Frakes said in the Shuttlepod show that Patrick might now regret his aversion to revisiting TNG characters, just like his character.

I heard someone on a podcast complain that #StarTrekPicard season 3 felt too safe because you knew everything would turn out all right "and that's not what Star Trek is about". I respect your viewpoint, podcast person, but have you watched any of the Star Trek that was made from 1966-2005? Because it was all about that.

In Subspace Radio #29, Rob & Kev sequence the genome of "Võx", the penultimate episode of Star Trek: Picard. Then, agreeing the Changleing plot to re-sequence the DNA of every member of Starfleet was a lot to take in, they set out to trace the twin helix of DNA as a plot point in Star Trek. They discuss "Genesis" (TNG), the Jem'Hadar (DS9), "Threshold" (VOY), and "Vaulting Ambition" (DIS).
