Car manufacturer Stellantis opened a €40M EV battery tech centre in Italy.
The Mirafiori Battery Technology Centre is 8,000 square metres in total, which makes it the largest battery testing facility in Italy, and one of the largest in Europe.
The move is part of a plan to expand battery building capacity to 400GWh — and significantly reduce battery weight.

Truly fascinating. Compare that to #Peugeot, #Citroën and #Renault. Peugeot had to absorb Citroën, sadly, but they continued to make interesting cars, and they have interesting plans with the #DS brand.
#Stellantis may be based in 🇳🇱 but the CEO is the former CEO of PSA Group (Peugeot SA) and from what I’ve read, it was more of a takeover of #FCA than a merger.

He even made GM’s old European operation profitable after 100 years of losses — while promising properly affordable EV’s. We just don’t get this kind of approach on this side of the Atlantic.

That's strange, because Marchionne died in 2018, and #Stellantis was only formed in 2021; he was CEO of Fiat Chrysler. It was also around that time that the European counterpart (Groupe #PSA) of what would become Stellantis also gave up their resistance to #SUV much to my disappointment. Until then I had praised #Peugeot for not offering a single SUV despite the growing trend around them.
