Except of course when the Conservatives led by #StephenHarper passed the Federal Accountability Act, lowering the maximum donation from an individual from $5000 to $1000.

Trudeau's Liberals didn't invent outsourcing IT projects to incompetent grifters. Under #Tory PM #StephenHarper Canada payed #IBM to build #Phoenix, an utterly defective payroll system for fed employees that stole millions from civil servants, bringing government to a virtual standstill. Thus far, the Government of Canada - which paid IBM $309m to develop Phoenix, as a "cost savings measure" - has paid $506m in damages to make goon on Phoenix's errors:

@josephby As I recall, #StephenHarper did the same thing. Maybe #uspol is learning from #canpol .
@SteveV Hard to remember now that #StephenHarper was at first widely popular in Canada...
By the way, here on Mastodon, we've traditionally used #canpol as a hashtag, unlike Twitter. And in Québec, #polqc is greatly preferred to #QCpoli . You might want to try using those hashtags too.

Stephen Harper endorses Poilievre as best chance for Conservatives to win next election

a) It's generally a mistake for former party leaders to involve themselves in current leadership contests, especially by public statements. They are better off as symbols of unity.
b) Seems like #StephenHarper really dislikes #JeanCharest . I wonder why?

@emacsen There's no particularly clever plan. At a federal level, the Conservative party of Canada has a long tradition of losing elections (five majority wins, as I recall, in the entire 20th Century). One of the results — and causes — of this lack of success is a habit of infighting and sacking leaders.
Since PM #StephenHarper left politics, the CPC has elected two leaders, and now there will be a third.
@Gemlog I know that you think the solution is to tax the rich more, but I see the problem as a spending issue. PM #PaulMartin handed a balanced budget to PM #StephenHarper , who went into deficit (as he was right to) for the global financial crisis. The Harper ministry then brought things back into balance to hand over to PM #JustinTrudeau ...
All we have to do is bring per capita spending back to what it was six years ago, and then pray that interest rates stay low.

The fact that important American politicians become very rich after they retire is troubling.
Does the same happen in Canada, I wonder? Does #JeanChrétien have a second house worth over $10M? What about #StephenHarper ?

If PM #StephenHarper had tried such a trick, there would be outrage from coast to coast to coast. Remember the dudgeon over dissolution?
