Had a great day at the Calanais standing stones. The cross and circles as a whole are interesting, but the individual stones are fascinating to look at with so many patterns in the Lewissian Gneiss rock that makes them up. Fascinating to think of how they were erected and their status as art - people choosing certain stones for their appearance then consciously displaying them, saying "look at this, it's important". #StoneCircle #stones #calanais #Scotland #IsleOfLewis #callanish

Outside the #NationalTrust café at #Avebury #StoneCircle yesterday. The NT have always done nice things across their sites during #PrideMonth. Last year they had exceptionally nice NT #LGBT bunting and flags that would have looked nice in our über #gay back window (we have a big #rainbow flag dangling there for all to see, which also helps to keep the room cool and shaded). 😊 But alas, there were none going spare. 🏳️🌈

A lovely afternoon stroll up to Cerrig Arthur stone circle, after yesterday's Aran ridge epic.
The circle is in the foothills of Y Rhinogydd, and has great views of Diffwys and Y Garn, the southernmost peaks in the range. It also looks south across the beautiful Mawddach estuary towards the soaring buttresses of Cader Idris. It stands beside an important route up to one of the bwlchs (passes) over the Rhinogydd ridge into Ardudwy.
