Recap on Mastodon instance storage:
- ZFS 5400rpm HDD: too slow with hundreds of thousands small files
- Storj: too expensive in the long run because of the segment fee($0.0000088)
- IDrive e2: timeouts on media upload 20% of time (over 1 minute object put time in some cases)
- Backblaze B2: works well and I will probably settle on it

#Storj is an outstanding resource based on #decentralization and respecting #privacy, stands on the assumptions of #web3. Soon our contribution on NicFab Digital Notes. @storj

Hat eigentlich jemand von euch schon mal Erfahrungen mit #Storj gemacht. Und der Einbindung als S3 Storage für #Nextcloud ? Wie das so performed ?

Contacted by a #Storj DCS about fee which would be more than 3000 USD per month unless I reduce the total file numbers stored on the clusters.
The TOS seems to have been changed so that any file under 64 megabyte is counted as one piece, and the fee is calculated based on the number of the pieces.
Now using Storj as a hot storage which consists of a bunch of tiny files like ones inside .git or node_modules folders is economically a bad idea and could cost you a LOT.
