Random observation: I’m surprised (and delighted, and now curious) at the number of people whose bios—and posts—contain both photography and IT (being guilty of both, and other things besides).

As a discipline or profession it never struck me as being particularly visual (although I always regarded it as extremely creative), however that’s not to say that these things aren’t entwined at a deeper level, like mathematics and music.

Equally, it could be that the things that attract IT people to interacting with technology and abstractions (possibly in preference to people) have equivalences in the process of capturing images. Dunno.

I read Sontag’s “On Photography” many many years ago, and it nearly stopped me from taking photos (I started when I was 12), but in the end I decided she was wrong, and whether right or wrong it brings me pleasure and others say it does them as well.

I’m still just amazed at how many fellow nerds end up in this particular Venn diagram, another wondrous thing #Mastodon has brought me.

Or maybe it’s just early adopters here are more likely to be IT folk and their hobbies are actually rectangularly distributed.

Nowt as strange as folk…
