#iCloud Drive is great 95% of the time, the other 5% it’s simply infuriating. Hangs (“1 item, 8 kB left, LOL” for hours), stalls, randomly unsync’d files… I pay for the 200GB plan, mostly for Photos sync/storage, but even those €3/month are a hard sell at that point.

I just moved my #Strongbox DB onto my #WebDAV server, and my #ObsidianMD vault out of iCloud Drive, then signed up for #ObsidianSync. The latter was an easy decision: I want to add some Sync features to #ActionsForObsidian anyways.

Wanted to replace #1Password with the #AppleKeychain. Realized #Chrome won't play ball with Keychain. Well, #Strongbox it is, then. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Aber die Entwicklung war absehbar.
Habe mich daher schon vor zwei Jahren für die bessere Alternative #Strongbox entschieden.
Hier kann ich mein Passwort lokal und ohne Cloud-Zwang speichern und verwalten.

To all who are concerned by the recently discovered #KeePass vulnerability: Please note that this vulnerability (if it really is one, not everyone seems to agree on that) affects only the KeePass program itself, not its database format (.kdbx) nor any of the other applications that use the same format (#KeePassXC, #KeePassDX, #Strongbox, etc.)

Please help me spread the word because not everyone seems to be aware of that.

Starting this morning, #Strongbox (iOS #KeePass client) crashed reproducibly on my phone after decrypting the password database. Mailed them the crash report, and less than 10 hours later I'm downloading their fix from the AppStore. Awesome, guys, that's software support as it should be. 👍

@walsonde Hab keine Probleme mit #Strongbox und #Nextcloud. Sync geht problemlos in beide Richtungen (#KeePassXC läuft permanent in Linux und macOS). Die iOS-„Files“-App kannst du natürlich vergessen (Strongbox greift per WebDAV auf die Nextcloud zu).

I used LastPass many years ago, but switched to 1Password after an early breach. I subscribed to 1Password for a long time, but their switch to a non-native Mac app (i.e. Electron) - which simply doesn’t feel like a Mac app at all - was the nudge I needed to look at other options. Strongbox is fully-native on Mac. I’ve been using Strongbox for a while now and I have no real complaints. It works well, stores what I need it to, and I have control.

With Strongbox, you get to choose where your vault is stored- be it local on your device or in your own account on a cloud platform (such as iCloud, Dropbox, etc). Since it uses the open KeePass format you’re not locked in- you can move to any other KeePass compatible client anytime you like (and there are many, Strongbox just happens to be the one I chose).

In light of the latest LastPass incident, I figured it was as good if time as any to mention my “secrets store” of choice these days: Strongbox. Strongbox isn’t a service, but an app that utilizes the open standard KeePass data format. Strongbox has apps available for Mac, iPhone and iPad.

@ambv @jacob Open source is a must for a password manager imho, to prevent vendor lock-in. The #KeePass file format is the obvious choice, with any client you like. I prefer #KeePassXC because it’s cross-platform, has a nice UI, good browser integration, and no plug-in interface, but YMMV. Syncing my #kdbx file via #Nextcloud, with #Strongbox on iOS.
