Oh, I forgot about the #tomatoes - I grabbed about a pound from the various indeterminates. The Romas are about to get ripe! The earliest of them are yellow now.
There’s a goth jay who lives in the big Doug fir in the pasture, and they’re in heaven now that this #sunflower is ripe. Between nice soft sunflower seeds and the scavenged chicken scratch, they must be running out of spots to cache food 😂
The established winter #brassicas are still doing great. No signs of whatever the evil white moths are sometimes laying on them - I think between the chickens and the wasps, they don’t have a chance. Pictured are Brussels sprouts, #cabbage, and #cauliflower.
I’ve got another planting of brassicas coming along in the grow tent inside. The warm weather should turn mild again tomorrow (I’m sorry if it’s 108°f where you live) and I think I’ll start hardening them off soon. Now that I know how tasty the chickens think they are, I’ll plant them in already caged beds. The newest ones are mostly winter cabbage, and I’m betting on a mild enough fall to get a nice late crop.

Good morning #BloomScrolling! Everything is looking lovely in a light drizzle this morning. Here’s my favorite #rose, the first and biggest #sunflower, and the white #hydrangea just starting to show its colors.

Today’s #garden walk, part 1. The huge #sunflower is open! One of my “magic molly” #potato vines has managed to set fruit, which is deeply exciting in a nerdy way. And the #BrusselsSprouts are starting to look like Brussels!
If you want to nerd out about potato seeds with me, this site has a tremendous amount of info.

The #garden is finally clicking into Summer Mode. A #sunflower, a #cucumber, #tomatoes.

@gardening GM from cool 8b!
Yesterday I looked out the window and saw a bird, hopping around on top of the wire cage on the big #blueberry, looking frustrated. HAHA! The first berries must be ripe!
This lovely #corn is “Saskatoon white,” a short season, small bushy plant prone to tillers (side shoots with small extra ears). It’s one of the biggest in my erratic little patch, at about 2 1/2 feet, but some of its shorter neighbors are making tassels too. Hopefully they know what they’re doing.
The #sunflower still looks like HR Geiger’s idea of a vagina, and I love that for it.

Today was a really bad day for the climate morbs* in my head. But the #garden continues to delight, especially this massive #sunflower bud. I’ve got a lil cucumber, and a squash that’ll be eating size tomorrow, and a bunch of tomatoes on deck. I’ve lost a few cabbages - they were pretty tiny when I set them out, but it’s early in the fall-winter cabbage planting window here. The Brussels and purple cauliflower look great!
Last weekend, I soaked and replanted #corn and beans in a couple of spots. I noticed the first threads of green from one of the corn patches today! And the early planting of Saskatoon White corn is only knee high, but it’s already tillering and getting ready to make some tiny ears. It’s described as early, short, and dependable, so that’s probably normal! https://www.adaptiveseeds.com/product/vegetables/corn/flint-corn-saskatoon-white-organic/
I started a new garden section today. I used all the cardboard I had on hand, and three cartloads of compost, and got about 100 sf of lawn covered in no-dig. I’ll see what cover crop seeds I’ve got stashed away and think about what I could plant for fall-winter food. Mostly, I’m hopeful that the flock will go scratch in *this* compost and quit flinging the potato bed compost everywhere!
I shoot and experiment with a lot of expired old film. Here's some shots on expired in 1987 Fuji HR400 shot at asa 32 with Nikon F3, Micro-Nikkor 55mm 2.8 last summer.

¿what if I told you? the Comrade is Dead yet the Cohort lives on:
I like the idea of sunflowers being flowers that actually replace the sun. And then what if they were also a portal to some other place? This is my attempt to convey those thoughts.
This is drawing number 5 for my self-challenge of finishing 365 pieces of art in 2023.

Was treated to this amazing Colorado #sunset tonight. I love when the sky gives hints, “Get ready — I’m gonna put on a show for you!” 🌇
The flowers are dried #sunflower blossoms in my #garden. (Helianthus maximiliana Santa Fe)
