It could happen that my sound system doesn't work properly because of a setting in the computer (I'm using Linux Mint and have learned not to jump to conclusions about how well things work.). This time, however, it was failing to produce sound from all 5.1 speakers because I had hit a button on the amplifier that told it to play stereo out of only two speakers. 🤦‍♀️

Just read over the specs on this thing, and HOLY CRAP! If it's as good as they claim, that price is a STEAL. Still a bit overkill for my needs (and I certainly don't have space for 13 speakers in my living room at the moment), but if I had the money to splurge, even if I only used two channels out of it, I'd grab one just for how clean and flat the numbers say it sounds.

Interesting. I'm just watching Event Horizon on #ParamountPlus and one major complaint people have that its still only #stereo and not #SurroundSound. Well. Event Horizon, at least the English language version is definitely sound sound. This acoustic shit can't be simulated. Actor voices definitely on middle, left & right channels, sound effects on subwoofer and back channels!

A lovely early recording of Hildur Guðnadóttir (Leyfðu Ljósinu). It was released on a USB stick in aif format so you could encode it to suit your particular surround sound setup. It had been recorded using a SoundField ST450 Ambisonic microphone.

At the time I received it I was a bit out of my depth but it left a seed. Later, when I became interested in field recording, I found my way back to ambisonics. First through some clumsy home made microphone arrays, and then as the bewildered owner of 4 different ambisonics mics.
