Emmanuel #Swedenborg was born on this day in 1688. His writings have had a huge impact on my walk as a #Christian. That being said his #theology ultimately falls short because it is silent about the #grace which is at the heart of the #gospel message.

Most people assume I am a #Socinian or conventional #Unitarian when I say that I don't believe in the #Trinity. It is because they have never encountered someone who denies the Trinity but accepts the divinity of #Christ. It also means they've never encountered the writings of #Swedenborg or met any #Swedenborgians.

My love of #Swedenborg and the #transcendentalists is what led to my love of #NewThought. I have cited folks like Ernest Holmes and Rev. Ike in my theology papers.

@awgonnerman There's so much I appreciate in #Swedenborg. The biggie is that I think the approach to Christianity found in his writings is more positive and hopeful than the orthodox approach. I also appreciate the non-literal interpretation of scripture offered in his writings.
