The (evolutionarily conserved) extracellular binding domain of #IFNg restrains its local production - probably to reduce #immune pathology during excessive stimulation....clear implications (beyond delayed adaptive response!) for understanding host response to #tuberculosis, where #Tcells can prevent dissemination but are unable to sterilize the infection

I think this is the first time I've seen a mainstream news story sharing info about how covid harms T cells, & thus may compromise your immunity to other illnesses. AJ Leonardi predicted in 2020 this was likely. Fascinating to me (though also sad) that it's taken this long for the warning to make it out of the science-geekery niche and into ordinary people's spaces. I'm sure a lot of people still don't know.

@Rahimilab The "hypoxia" in the abstract caught my eye....for a long time we were trying to generate large # of Tfh in vitro ... one condition was culturing under hypoxia which could enrich for CXCR5+ #Tcells but not expand them; if that observation had something to do with limiting IL2 signals that would make sense.

the 2nd half is *unpublished* data on #tissue #CD4 #Tcells during #influenza and how they fit into a network of #CD8 #Bcells, #IgA & #NKcells.

I've received feedback from someone working on tumors that some of it brings new perspective on his data. In return I learned some new stuff about bladder cancer.

This open exchange of ideas is why I'm a scientist.

@dhoces interesting! I did my PhD on #TCells and currently a postdoc on #bacteria. Seems like we have similar interests, except I am more on the molecular side. :)
