Excellent proposal from my former @envirodefence@twitter.com colleague, & now @TOenviro@twitter.com campaigns director, Sarah Buchanan. Do not let your #tocouncil lor scam you with rhetoric & empty promises. Their OWN unwillingness to increase revenues is NOT an excuse for failure to deliver. #topoli

#TOCouncil SHOULD deliver enough homes in each neighborhood for everyone who'd like to live there, in forms and at rent levels they can afford. In REALITY, #tocouncil refuses even pay for enough shelter beds for houseless people in the neighborhoods where they need to be. https://twitter.com/GraphicMatt/status/1603813318698975260

Torontoβs emergency shelter program for men hit 100% capacity last night.
1,128 beds, 1,128 people, zero vacancy.

The # of new residents Toronto SHOULD plan for over the next 8 years is roughly the # @SteveClarkPC@twitter.com's 2020 Growth Plan assigned to @CityPlanTO@twitter.com for the next *3 decades*. Yes, #tocouncil should've rejected @SteveClarkPC@twitter.com's judgment, but that's hardly something HE can complain about.

Nobody should be surprised #tocouncil has decided, by a wide margin, to plan for 285k new homes by 2031. Toronto accepted & exceeded the previous growth targets assigned to it.
The Q is: Why did Minister Clark tell Toronto - in 2020 - to plan ~1/3 that rate of growth? #TOpoli

If convergence of rhetoric at #TOCouncil around support for densification in neighborhoods carries through into the actual voting... maybe we should hold off on the "city in decline" rhetoric. #topoli

To be clear the proposal to commission a 2023 Housing Action Plan from staff should pass even without amendments. It's just that amendments would be helpful in making sure no unexpected "poison pills" find their way into the reports that come back in March.

It is vital for the environment that EVERYONE who'd prefer to live in Toronto actually DOES find a decent home here. 2023 Housing Action Plan as proposed wouldn't be sufficient & the item needs tweaks, but most of its measures are NECCESSARY steps forward. http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgendaItemHistory.do?item=2023.CC2.1

Today, as #TOCouncil considers moving forward more aggressively on #housing, worth noting this year's Who's Hungry report found almost 1/5 food bank users spend 100% of their income on shelter. These costs are a key driver in #Poverty #FoodInsecurity https://www.dailybread.ca/research-and-advocacy/whos-hungry-report-2022/
