I'd been under the impression that the #Takarazuka performance in July 1994 was my first proper #theatre experience, but this #Turgenev play was in Feb/Mar 1994, so came before it. I love Helen Mirren (and had the most massive crush on her at the time) but I don't recall being blown away by 'A Month In The Country'. #CantoneseOpera is one of the most ‘different’ performance traditions I’ve ever encountered but Pak Suet-sin / #白雪仙 and her partner Yam Kim-fai / #任劍輝 have won me over. Their chemistry is extraordinary. Pak is luminous and her face is constantly ‘talking’ to you. Yam has a lovely mixture of nobility & vulnerability. The energy is VERY different from #Takarazuka.
