Focusing on them may or may not lessen the discomfort, but it will allow you to put the situation in perspective and begin to move forward again.

Ten of Daggers: Sometimes the weight gets to be too much. This might be due to choices you have made or been pressured into, or simply due to life circumstances. Regardless, it's time to remove some of that weight: hand responsibilities to others, lean on others (this includes deities if you're inclined in that direction). Lighten the load a little so you can move freely again.

I enjoyed some of the contrasts and discussions that followed @Athenalindia posting a number of unique #Tarot cards from different decks, and I thought I might do something like this, too, today. Since the Five of Staffs (Wands) from The Alchemical Tarot appeared recently and since it is very different from many other versions of the card, I thought it would be interesting to post it and invite discussion about the Five of Wands card.

A common reading of the card is that the situation there involves some squabbling or conflict. The RWS deck shows five young men seeming to play some close quarters violent game with huge staffs or tree limbs being raised and swung. It is full of worked-up people in competition and possibly in strife. Everything is out of kilter and fights ensue.

The Alchemical Tarot shows a different aspect of the card. The Five of Staffs shows a burning hand whose fingers have transformed into burning wands of wood. It represent creative power being wielded and implies there might be some danger of being consumed by using it. If we are doing the work of the Anima Mundi, we are using the creative power of the Fire element properly and there is no danger, but creativity can have conflict as fuel, so it might be counseling one to transform the power of conflict to create.

I like to recall this version of the card when using other decks because just reading this Five as conflict is sometimes not enough. Of course it depends on context, but when it shows up where no obvious contest shows, I like to consider that it might be an instruction to use creativity in the context that the reading is discussing. The image itself is striking and sometimes carries other meanings in the reading because of that.

Overall, I find the Fives to be interesting because of how often they carry negative connotations, and yet Five is the number of the Quinta Essentia, the Fifth Element that transcends the mundane world of four elements. Why is such a creative force seen so negatively? I’ve pondered this and don’t have a good answer. Ideas?

The combination of garlic and honey here is really interesting. What can be harsh when raw, tempered with honey. It’s a common pairing, but pointed out here, it’s a great botanical metaphor for Strength. Raw power alleviated by kindness - it sweetness, as the case may be. Both are powerful in terms of antibacterial properties, but it’s bringing them together that creates something special. It’s hard to swallow difficulties when all the strength we have is harsh. It’s easier when it is combined with understanding and tenderness.
