Tawny Puffer Fish!

Resident Tawny frogmouths captured late afternoon in their current roost. Female, in the centre, is aware & intently watching the camera guy & the male (lower) is doing his best lookaway impression of a puffer fish.

Weeks since we spotted a lone Tawny along the Puffing Billy rail line, today we happily stumbled across the pair. Someone doesnā€™t look as pleased. Good birbs these.

Federal Reserve this afternoon & found one of the pair who, last year, inhabited the small section of bush near the tennis club. Itā€™s partner perished earlier this year due to secondary poisoning. Given all of this, isnā€™t this an impressive pose?

Still havenā€™t located any Tawny frogmouths out here in Gembrook but I may take a nighttime wander along Station Rd where Puffing Billy comes into town. There are a few tell-tale accumulations of šŸ’© near street lights that attract moths which serve as entree for Tawnies. We shall see.

Anyhoo, hereā€™s the Mt. Waverley adult captured as a ventured back to old haunts last week.

Bebbee pair! Suspected the nest over Gardinerā€™s Creek was home to a pair of bebbee Tawny frogmouths: yesterday this was confirmed with both on display as the two shots below show. The frailty & precariousness of the nest on full display.
