@jafa Kotahi is more often translated as “standing together as one” or united. For plants that would be one bunch not one (banana or other item).

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency say ‘Waka’ means ‘vessel’ and ‘kotahi’ means (as) ‘one’ so our Māori name conveys the concept of ‘travelling together as one’ and embraces integration, affordability, safety, responsiveness and sustainability.

Kept seeing references to Aorangi Park on socials, wondered where that Māori name came from - refers to the London New Zealand Rugby Club's grounds, which were on the site until 1981. “Aorangi refers to the 'canonical' Māori description of Aoraki”

Consultation on bi-lingual traffic signs ends this Friday on 30 June. If you would like to make a submission, you can do so by either writing to rules@nzta.govt.nz or doing the online survey (see the link below). Here is the Google doc with some suggested responses and all the links you need. Let's not let the racists win this one.

We need to normalise 'Aotearoa New Zealand' as the name of these islands in order to highlight the bicultural framework we live in.
