I know many people love this book, but I have rather mixed feelings about it.
The stories explore many interesting ideas and the prose is rich, but most of them made me feel like I was reading philosophical treatises or essays rather than stories. They just didn't work as stories for me.

Favourite authors that occur to me include: #IainMBanks, #BeckyChambers, #LordDunsany, #TedChiang, #AdrianTchaikovsky, #RobertHarris, #HGWells, #GKChesterton, #AgathaChristie, #DorothyLSayers, #MargaretWeiss and #TracyHickman, and of course #Tolkien, who I still maintain is under-appreciated. I’m keen to discover new favourites - especially if they can diversify the list a bit.
