So the @PINE64 #pinetabv now has a fundamentally functional - with some caveats - usable desktop boot image. Touch screen and WiFi are good. For and Firefox work. And here's a photo of it running Node.js v20.5.1 and an early access build of #Adoptium #Temurin 21 😁😍 #OpenJDK #Java #NodeJS
Credit to @Fishwaldo for getting this KDE Plasma image available!

"Gartner estimates that by 2026, more than 80% of Java applications may be deployed on third-party Java runtimes due to the steep increase in Oracle licensing costs." #Adoptium #Temurin #Java

#Oracle here specifically repeatedly referring to IBM rather than #RedHat even referencing "IBM's blog" on redhat.com, also #CentOS but not referencing CentOS Stream ... Perhaps there's an agenda here 🤷♂️
I was somewhat amused by this response Re: #Solaris: https://twitter.com/danutz68/status/1678433192443781120
As an aside: You can get an open source, unrestricted use java (openjdk) implementation that will run on Oracle Linux and most other OSs for free at https://adoptium.net #adoptium #temurin

If there is anyone out there still using the old #AdoptOpenJDK RPM/DEB (yum/apt) package repositories, please switch over to the #Adoptium #Temurin ones, as the AdoptOpenJDK ones are horribly out of date and will have multiple security issues. Your configuration files should have `packages.adoptium.net` in them.
Go here to find out the correct settings to stay up to date and secure: https://adoptium.net/installation/linux/ #Ubuntu #Debian #Fedora #RedHat

#RISCV Took custody of a couple more of the original HiFive Unleashed boards this week. One in a nice acrylic case, and the other came with the expansion board that has M.2 SSD support, HDMI output etc.
Whether I can find suitable drivers for the expansion board I have no idea (it doesn't recognise the SSD straight away with the Debian that's on it for example). It also runs quite hot!
These will be used for additional test capacity in the #Adoptium #Temurin CI
Great work from my team at #Adoptium who have managed to get the new JDK11 an 17 quarterly releases of Eclipse #Temurin out on the primarily platforms in under two days from the source being available, with most of the JDK8 platforms out too, and a few JDK20. I expect most of them will be done by end of day tomorrow. Thanks to all involved! We're making improvements to the speed of release every time! #java
#Adoptium published new #Temurin binaries for #JDK20 based on #OpenJDK here for some more popular platforms a couple days ago here: https://adoptium.net/temurin/releases/?version=20
Less common platform binaries should be out within a few more days. #Java #JDK #OpenSource

My go-to openjdk is Temurin from @EclipseFdn. Switched from Oracle's openjdk just over a year ago.
