🥥 Eye have a bit of dyslexia going on, so I often have trouble parsing #Linux #Terminal commands.
Using #rsync without a GUI was beyond me.
Then I discovered #LuckyBackup -- a GUI for rsync that was understandable to me.
I'm currently using it to move files from old hard drives to my new M2 drive in my new desktop.
Boy, is it fast!
This may be what YOU'VE been looking for if other options have not felt comfortable.
PS: I found the non-super-user version looks better on my monitor. 🥥

So for those asking, the #1440kB #Floppy Version of OS/1337 will be a better #Floppinux with #Ethernet & #Network support and packing in #Dropbear as #SSH client.
So you could at the very least use it as a #SSH #Terminal #distro...
Sadly this means it will require at least an #i686 and won't run on an #i486 anymore as a lot of memory was eaten up by #486SX woraround code in the kernel...

@whitekiba Personally I just want to have a "#FrugalComputing" distro that at least works as an #SSH "#ThinClient" or #Terminal...
But sadly I really hit a brick wall getting stuff optimized so that I can fit the absolute bare minimums in there...
After all, I just want a minimal #Linux that offers me a #Terminal and can run #dropbear as #SSH client and let the #toybox do the boring userland housekeeping.
Any advice?

OS/1337 development:
Using the oldest still maintained #longterm #linux #Kernel did yield about 25% size reduction for it's binary...
The good news: I basically have a new size record with the same settings: 551kB for the Kernel and 402k for toybox - both targeting #i486 systems.
The bad news: I've got neither network nor USB support at all!
And I think Network support and having #dropbear as minimal #SSH client is kinda necessary for #OS1337 to work as a "#terminal" system at all.

TIL that `source` is a synonym for . (a period) in #bash. So instead of doing `source filename` you can just do `. filename`. 🤯

This looks even more practical than the #VT69 by @violenceworks
Tho the comparison is unfair as the VT-69 is a portable #Terminal that can be used as a #console and has a different scope and more versatility.

@arichtman @dashdsrdash some thin client may be an option.
I got a 3 pack of T620 with power supply, 10GB SSD & 4GB RAM each for like €90 with shipping on #eBay...

You'll likely need to read datasheets then, but otherwise they're great if you need some silent #Terminal or #MiniServer.
@ubuntu / #UbuntuServerLTS, @bunsenlabs / #BunsenLabsLinux #Desktop and even @tails / #Tails just run fine on those.

Today, a very niche tip for techy people! 🤓
If you want to use Mastodon through a command line interface or text-based user interface, there's a tool you can install which offers both called "toot":
This software is written by @ihabunek
(NOTE: This software has no connection to the mobile apps @tootapp or @tooot, they just have similar-sounding names.)

@james #WhatsMissing a modern #Terminal that does allow for #SSH [maybe even loads keys from a secure storage] and is otherwise stripped-down...
It's why there's so many people at many different places that are designed to help people like us navigate this crap. It's a huge help, for sure, but it really shouldn't have to be like this. But I knew this going in. They tell people like my long dead dad who applied for #disability for #terminal cancer to go eat shit, claiming he wasn't terminal despite all the medical evidence to the contrary.
I won't quit. But damn does it suck to have this sap so much energy...
Mac first developers mystify me, and so Imma withhold judgement.
#Terminal autocomplete now with integrated Generative Predictive Text #AI , coming soon maybe for the vast majority of terminal users.
