Where I live, our local auto ecology has long been dominated by the #Prius. They've been everywhere, powered by fermented granola (Gombucha?) and, some say, a dash of smugness.

This morning I noticed things are changing.

The humble local Prius is being displaced. On my morning commute, previously presenting pods of Prii at every turn - five at the coffee shop, eight in the carpool line, uncountable hordes at the co-op - their presence was surprisingly sparse. They were, one might say, endangered.

See, the ecosystem is changing. The Prius is disappearing. Taking its place, increasingly, is an #invasiveSpecies that has lurked for long years but now is exploding in population. I must have seen twenty #Teslas on a short back-and-forth drive. But what of the Prius? There's a #natureReserve not far from #downtown where several huddled beneath the wings of a #charterSchool. They seemed on edge, hesitant, as if they knew themselves to be threatened and not long for this world.

What led to this? Has there been some precipitating event, or is this just the inevitable march of #progress or, more darkly, #climateChange? Maybe I'm observing a seasonal migration, but I have my doubts.
