Man standing: "What's the book?"

Man lying in bed (or woman sitting reading to him?): "'Vanity Fair.'"

Man standing: "A rather long yarn for a young man these days."

Still from a whose name I don't remember. And I call myself a cinephile. I can't even pick who the actors are. Maybe this was the only memorable scene & dialogue, though I would like to watch it again to find out.

Have to say, I've always been partial to long yarns, though I am yet to read .

Also I think was reading when he was fighting in the Crimean War? And was writing literary criticism on the other front from . Could be fun to write something on "What we read while fighting." Or even "What pacifists read at war." Not that they all necessarily became pacifists. Just thinking aloud...

William Makepeace Thackeray, best known for his satirical novel 'Vanity Fair', lived in Paris for a while, and developed a taste for bouillabaisse which he honoured in a poem..

A street there is in Paris famous,
For which no rhyme our language yields,
Rue Neuve des Petits Champs its name is-The New Street of the Little Fields.
And here's an inn, not rich and splendid, But still in comfortable case;
The which in youth I oft attended, To eat a bowl of Bouillabaisse...
