I lived in #Thamesmead for 18 years from the mid-90s. My flat was decent inside (much better than the flashy new builds) and the area didn’t feel particularly crime-ridden or troubled but it did feel isolated. #Peabody were worse than Thamesmead Town or Gallions when it came to fixing or maintaining things. https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/nov/30/cockney-riviera-botched-regeneration-brutalist-utopia-thamesmead #housing

Excellent article on the architectural monstrosity, Thamesmead. If you haven’t been there, it’s worth visiting. Parts of A Clockwork Orange were filmed there; Kubrick, as always, a master at choosing eye-catching locations.

The Woolwich-Erith riverside project. This is the cover to a 1966 document produced by the Greater London Council outlining plans for a major housing development - in effect a New Town in London’s south eastern suburbs.
Without a name at the time, we now know it as Thamesmead.
