In my opinion, stylistically - i.e. design, graphics and production - the Swedish role-playing games are probably in the lead, while the international pioneer #Symbaroum occupies a special position for me.
In general, one can say that the #ttrpg production quality has never been as high as it is today. Even comparatively small productions like #TheBlackSwordHack can look great!!

Some #L5RRPG books are also really neat.

#TheBlackSwordHack kam heute bei mir an. Trotz Vorbestellung und verpenntem KS mit Ausgabe 0 von „The Chaos Crier“, einem begleitenden Fanzine. Ich lese das jetzt, um mich von dem Geschehen abzulenken. Habe vorhin meine Kleine beigesetzt.

#TheBlackSwordHack Ultimate Chaos Ed. aus dem KS wurde zusammen mit #TheChaosCrier geliefert („…zine for Black Sword Hack and other #SwordAndSorcery Adventure Game“). Mein erster Eindruck: das 27 S. Zine enthält ein kurzes Abenteuer (A Sky Full of Swords), ein neues Monster (Deep Ones), eine Fraktion (The Black Sun of the Deep) und ein größeres Abenteuer (S. 10-27): The Darkness over Nijmauwrgen. Dieses Abenteuer kreist u.a. um die Deep Ones und den Kult der Black Sun of the Deep #pnpde #osr 1/x

@TMushmen When will the new #TheBlackSwordHack and the #TheChaosCrier! (Issue 0) available to mortals (aka Non Kickstarter Backers)? So far, I only found a preorder for the #ttrpg.

@AetherEgo ja, es ähnelt #BOL tatsächlich nicht nur wg der Genrebezüge, sondern auch im Hinblick auf die Figurenerstellung mittels Background / Careers. #TheBlackSwordHack ist insgesamt viel düsterer grundiert als #BOL und weniger „pulpy“. Das kommt im Artwork, im Worldbuilding und in den Spielregeln zum Ausdruck (ich sag nur Doom-Mechanik). Die Spiele beleuchten das #SwordAndSorcery Genre aus unterschiedlichen Winkeln, könnte man sagen.

Die Anhänge von #TheBlackSwordHack(Appendix I-XII) liefern dann Hinweise für die Spielleitung, wundervolle kleine Tabellen (impossible creatures, Strange Planes), eine Bibliographie mit #SwordAndSorcery Literatur, die das Spiel beeinflusst hat und und und. Die Illustrationen der Ultimate Chaos Edition (von Goran Gligovic) gefallen mir ausgesprochen gut. Ich freue mich drauf, TBSH bald mal an den Start zu bringen! 8/x

Was #TheBlackSwordHack ansonsten bietet: Runic Weapons, ein kurzes Bestiarium, Informationen zum Worldbuilding (Tabellen ♥️), wobei u.a. auf das Motiv des ewigen Kampfes zwischen Ordnung und Chaos eingegangen wird, wie es z.B. für die Welten Michael Moorcocks charakteristisch ist. Ferner gibt es zwei Abenteuer (Dark Seeds, Slayers of the Blood God) und eine Stadt (Heimdallir) 7/x

#TheBlackSwordHack Magiesystem(!): der schlanke Band enthält gleich 5 Spielarten von Magie und die triefen vor Flavor: demonic pacts, spirit alliances, sorcery, faerie ties und twisted science. Wie es sich für das #SwordAndSorcery Genre gehört, ist Zauberei gefährlich und ihr Einsatz geht mit Risiken einher. Sie ist hier nicht nur Werkzeug/Munition wie bei #dnd. Der Erwerb von Magie/quasi Magie ist an spezifische Backgrounds geknüpft. 6/x

#TheBlackSwordHack Figurenerstellung: anders als bei #TheBlackHack gibt es bei TBSH keine Charakterklassen. Die Figuren werden stattdessen durch Herkunft (Origin: Barbarian, Civilised, Decadent) und Hintergründe (Backgrounds) skizziert, die den Origins zugeordnet sind. Man könnte z.B. einen Schamanen & Geschichtenerzähler barbarischer Herkunft erschaffen, der sich in der dekadenten Metropole Tarenrus als Gladiator verdingt hat. So entsteht ganz schnell eine genrespezifische Personage 👍 5/x

#TheBlackSwordHack Spielregeln 2: in TBSH kommen absteigende Würfelketten (Usage Die) zum Einsatz, um abstrakte Ressourcen zu tracken (Bsp. aus dem Buch: Loyalität eines Söldners). Zentrale Ressource im Spiel: Doom (bzw. DOOM 🤘). Wenn die Spieler*innen Würfe verpatzen, Magie wirken oder das Schicksal herausfordern, droht ihnen der (temporäre) Zustand „doomed“ und damit ein Nachteil auf alle Würfe (zweimal würfeln, niedrigsten Wert nehmen). Atmosphärische Push your luck Mechanik 👍4/x

#TheBlackSwordHack Spielregeln 1: Es gibt die klassischen sechs Attribute (str, int, dex, wis, con, cha). Alle Tests, Kampf- u. Rettungswürfe werden durch Attributtests umgesetzt (W20-Wurf: Attribut unterbieten). Bei TBSH würfeln (fast) nur die Spieler*innen. Find ich super. Mag Spiele mit „Player Facing“ Mechanik. Beschleunigt das Spiel, hält mit als Leitung Gewürfel vom Leib 👍 Zusätzlich gibt es eine Vor-/Nachteils-Mechanik (zweimal würfeln, höheren/niedrigeren Wert nehmen). 3/x

#TheBlackSwordHack erste Eindrücke für @thopan

Bei #TheBlackSwordHack Ultimate Chaos Ed. (von Kobayashi) handelt es sich um einen Hack des bekannten #osr Hits #TheBlackHack. TBH ist ein regelleichtes Adventure Game, im Grunde eine stromlinienförmige und modernisierte Variante früher #dnd Iterinationen. TBSH zielt hingegen darauf ab, das #SwordAndSorcery Genre zu bespielen. Düster grundierte Fantasy mit schurkischen Personagen a la Conan, Elric, Kane oder dem grauen Mauser 2/x

#TheBlackSwordHack Ultimate Chaos Edition ist eingetrudelt. Das tröstet etwas über das Ende des Kurzurlaubs hinweg #pnpde #osr

@greenspindle @Morgunin Aktuell bin ich noch gut „ausgelastet“ mit Spielrunden, aber bald läuft eine OSE Runde aus und ich hätte total Lust, mal wieder eine #Mothership Runde oder eine Runde #TheBlackSwordHack (#osr Sword & Sorcery a la Elric, Conan etc.) zu leiten. So über max 4-5 Sessions (20:15-22:30 Uhr) hinweg, unter der Woche. Soll ich mich ggf melden, falls sich was abzeichnet?

@weirdadmiral my impression is: this one could be easily translated into another game. The micro-setting of the crumbling ancient city, would go well with a sword & sorcery game of your choice. I‘m tempted myself to re-run „Foulcoult’s Bounty“ using #TheBlackSwordHack.

1. #ShadowoftheDemonLord: i own the game since 2018, always wanted to try it out, but it holds a weird position between my regular #osr games and #Morborg. One day: SotDL Goblin mini campaign!
2. #ForbiddenLands: Splendid boxed set. Sweet Sword&Sorcerish hexcrawlin. Right down my alley, but somehow the #yearzeroengine does not appeal to me…yet
3. #TheBlackSwordHack: own the original version and backed the ultimate chaos edition on KS. Will bring it to table in 2023.
