The Blackening fails to live up to the promise of the trailer, delivering a decidedly average horror comedy that is light on both horror and comedy.

The likeable cast isn't enough to elevate a script this predictable and lacking in the basic requirements on the genres it sits within. If you're not going to deliver those elements, I'd at least appreciate a few buckets of gore, but we don't even get that.
