I pulled the plug on my #twitter account. It’s somewhat cathartic to be honest. After 16 years of ups and downs, I feel it’s a bit like growing up. After all, how many of us wound up there when jaiku went away? Or VOX? While I had a Twitter account at the same time, I paid no attention to it until jaiku was no more. Feels odd to see #TheGreatMigration used in an ahistorical context right when I was thinking about how quickly and whether #blacktwitter would be moving en masse to these federated sites. Masto.host are closed to new applications, which is understandable considering the growth this week. I hope they get up and running soon for new servers. The #fedeverse seems to work best when servers are relatively small. If they all start growing big, the Local feed becomes unmanageable and the community feel of each could be more easily lost.
