#TheKinks on top, two songs by obscure Australian protopunk band #TheSaints played the most, and continual flipping back and forth between the #BillEvansTrio and #JudasPriest. Yep, my 2022 #Spotify stats sound about right.

Tonight it’s old music again. Then again, when you reach my age it’s all old music. Tonight’s is the late-career greatest hits collection “Come Dancing with The Kinks.” It has live versions of three older songs plus a host of their music from the 70s and 80s. Ray Davies is an underappreciated songwriter, and lots of his brilliance is here.

Yet another that I never bought on vinyl, so I’m streaming, but pleasing to the end.

#GreatAlbums - #1960s, No. 17: The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society (1968). Part nostalgia, part satire, this LP lamented an idyllic British society that never quite existed. Ray Davies evoked the power of memory while developing his social awareness of a flawed present. “Do You Remember Walter,” “Picture Book” and “Sitting by the Riverside” offered skewed portraits of suburban life undercut by dark undercurrents of loss.
