Just finished Chikyuugai Shounen Shoujo which has been on my plan to watch for 2022. Originally released in late Jan as a part of the Winter 2022 anime season, it was released in Japan as a two part film and worldwide as a 6 episode Netflix series. I started watching it earlier this month. The original creator and director has worked on key animation for a bunch of Sci-Fi classics including: Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion, Perfect Blue, Dennou Coil, and Robotics; Notes.
I originally was drawn to this anime because children interacting with AI's was mentioned in the description. Usually I'm a fan of media, especially podcasts, where AI's take on a very human role, a role where they question just as much who they are and their autonomy in doing things other than what they're programmed to do.
In this thread I'll talk a little about my thoughts. Overall, I'd rate it 6/10. It's pretty clean and cute, and probably good for like a middle schooler audience, and I think it makes sense that it ended up getting released by Netflix. I'm impressed they got a lot in with six episodes, which affords it a lack of filler content, but I am a bit dissatisfied with the ending.
