#TheSealeyChallenge right now I'm finishing entries #5 & #6: Afterland by Mai Der Vang and The Adamant by Mary Ruefle
Finished "All the Names Given" by Raymond Antrobus. This in my top 10 reads of the year so far
As usual, had no idea about the poet's backstory before reading. And, what a wonderful surprise to read from another black/white poet of the Jamaican diaspora. One who brings such beautiful, textual images of deafness with the use of closed captions in the book itself (inspired by Christine Sun Kim).
Stoked to read his other works cuz The Perseverance is the one he's known for.
Today's poetry selection is: "Grit" by silas denver melvin
20% into "New Poems by Wendell Berry (2006); and, I got some inspo already.
Berry, from 'How to Be a Poet (to remind myself)':
"like prayers prayed back to the one who prays,
make a poem that does not disturb
the silence from which it came"
my response, "What About Us: Freaks?":
But what about disruption?
The anarchy of language;
Break barriers as police batons break bones.
Through those cracks and fissures, light can be shone.
