Maybe I've just been making good choices, but after watching #Barbie yesterday I thought back over the movies I've seen in the cinema since the pandemic: #WakandaForever, #TheWomanKing and #EverythingEverywhereAllAtOnce (all of which were excellent) and it really does feel like something's changing and Hollywood executives have finally realised women watch films and want to see fully developed female characters and are finally putting money behind them

Uuuh, #TheWomanKing is on Sky.
I really liked that film in theaters.
Reminded me of Braveheart-like epics, we haven't really gotten the couple of decades.

I'm finally getting to watch #TheWomanKing. I missed it in the cinema and have been waiting to rent it for months.

And now that I'm watching it I think that it is, at best ... meh.

I really wanted to love it cos it's a Hollywood movie set in Africa, but it's no better than average Nollywood fare.

The acting isn't great - especially Lashana Lynch - and the accents are all over the place.

How disappoint.

Holy shit, The Woman King was fucking awesome! Viola Davis was incredible! I'm just learning now the film wasn't nominated for a single category for the Academy Awards?? I mean, go figure. Oscars have always been a joke. Although it makes you wonder if the academy is racially biased against it.

Anyway, I may have just watched it on Netflix, but it might be my favorite film released last year. It scratched the itch of 90s epics like Gladiator, Braveheart, etc.

When people ask me, “what’s your favorite movie”, I tell them, there really is no such thing. Like a favorite meal, it depends on many things. Surroundings, mood, etc..
However, if you ask me, who’s your favorite actor/actress, I had to say @violadavis@twitter. Her charisma is unparalleled, as is her talent. Watching her in #TheWomanKing alongside the equally strong @lashana_lynch@twitter and a great @JohnBoyega@twitter just reminded me of that. What a performance. 👏

5 #Oscar noms for #WakandaForever. I refused to pay to see it in theaters because Namor was flying around on little ankle wings. Come on, #AcademyAwards. Aside from this and #EverythingEverywhere, you once again found yourselves in a field of White nominations and ya got scared. What about #TheWomanKing? Did you think it was this movie? Do they all look alike to you? Did you know the Agojie Warriors of #TheWomanKing were the real-life inspiration for #BlackPanther's Dora Milaje? No, you didn't.

We finally watched #TopGunMaverick last night. We did a 7-day Paramount trial for it. #TheWomanKing was runner up and one of the last hold outs of the movies everyone seems to love that we missed in theaters and are waiting to get “free” on streaming. (#Pearl is also on that list.) Gotta respect that this movie is low key holding out for every last penny it can get in direct sales or rentals.

Oh you want to see us on Netflix? Yeah no, back in theaters for MLK weekend. You WAIT or you PAY!

Just finished watching “The Woman King”. Thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it for viewing.
