#ThickTrunkTuesday time, and this oak has had a long and eventful life.

Haven't done a #ThickTrunkTuesday for a little bit. So here's a chunky maple by the river.

Hedge as seen from the inside.
Many small trunks can make a thick edge.
Home of racoon.
Almost forgot #ThickTrunkTuesday. It's been a busy day.
Here's an oak which is much older than the estate it stands in.

A few days ago, I went to Chirk Castle and saw this three-century-old cedar of Lebanon. It had been very badly damaged in a heavy blizzard the winter before last; the top third of the tree was snapped off (and turned into a bench, just out of shot).
But for all its difficulties, it is still alive. It is still producing rich green foliage. The old man lives yet.

#ThickTrunkTuesday! Here's a copper beech in a churchyard. With bonus medieval pub in the background.

Haven't much for #ThickTrunkTuesday because I'm still not getting out of the house a great deal. But I did say a few weeks ago that I'd get a picture of the grand old horse chestnut at the end of my street, whilst it's blossoming. So here:

For #ThickTrunkTuesday: I haven't been out much lately, been stuck at home, so here's a picture from a couple of weeks ago.
I've posted this lovely old horse chestnut before, but in winter when it was bare. Now it is in full leaf, and blossoming.
If I can, I'll take a picture of its blossom fully developed, before it all goes.

For #ThickTrunkTuesday, sorry, I have nothing. But this very thin maple is in the courtyard of the hospital ward, so it's the best I've got. And it's trying, bless it.
You know what? In all the excitement, I forgot #ThickTrunkTuesday.
So quickly, before I go to bed, get a look at this chunky knobbly oak. It's the kind of tree that folk tales are written about.

Up the hillside across the pasture in the previous post is this grand old white oak. The branches shade an area a hundred feet in diameter. These are double hammocks, big enough for two.
Lately, a local black bear has been opening cars and going into houses at night. It knows how doorknobs work.

Because today has been a shit and upsetting day, I didn't get around to #ThickTrunkTuesday. But I'll put one up before I go to bed. This fine old horse chestnut is outside one of the oldest houses in my town, the old manor house.
