I was seriously contemplating ditching my #Thinkpad X250 fleet for something more recent because I was missing a USB-C port for charging/powering.
But today I learned "USB-C to slim tip" (and even "to barrel") adapters exist! 🙂

This is my daughter's #Thinkpad T460s. She uses it for school and occasionally for a computer game. Thanks to Geforce Now, that also works quite well on a normal Thinkpad. #ThinkPadThursday #LenovoIN

Gibts doch immer wieder interessante Deals. Ein Shop wo ich schon öfters ein Thinkpad gekauft habe, hat mir von sich aus ein #Thinkpad nach Wahl im gleichen Preisspektrum im Tausch gegen das #MacBookAirM1 angeboten 😬
Update on the #ThinkPad: after realizing that FreeBSD's drivers for this laptop were disorganized and unmaintained, and its user space didn't really have any advantage over GNU's, and also deciding I wanted to learn more about how Linux works, since that's the OS I actually use, I decided to install #Gentoo for the first time!
I successfully got to the end of the handbook and have all the basic things working nicely, but after three days of nonstop work on it, I still can't get the drivers for the intel graphics chip in it not to crash. I'm just glad I've felt good enough lately to work this much tbh, although it's probably bad I'm not using that to work on my game.
In other news, I'm kind of falling in love with how interesting and fun it is to set Gentoo up on a non critical machine, and I'm definitely falling in love with the hardware itself
Just got my #ThinkPad T420 today! Slotted the cheap SSD I got for it in and booted FreeBSD. Subsequently got through the basic install process before I had to take a break. I fucking love this laptop already, it's so sturdily designed and tactile and fun. I love FreeBSD so far too, the system structure and manpages are super nice. This might turn into my favorite machine to mess with and modify (as opposed to my Oryx Pro workstation, which is where I'll get real work done, so I don't want to mess with that thing too much).
I've been extremely interested in #FreeBSD lately, and I kind of want to hack on a kernel that's very easy to build and modify, as well as well documented, without having to work in a VM (I hate VMs), and I also want to learn how to actually mod computer hardware, plus I want a machine that's extremely durable and reliable as a backup and something to take with me on trips or to class, since my workstation laptop is too expensive for that, and I don't care about size or weight since I don't take textbooks with me and keep it in my backpack.
So what did I do?
I found a #ThinkPad T420 with a Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and an discrete GPU for $60 on eBay and got one. (My gf also got one bc she wants to experiment with Arch Linux).
It's... probably a complete waste of money, especially since I'm actually in no condition lately to DO anything with it, but hopefully I'll get back to the point where I can program a little every day again in a few weeks. #postconcussionsyndrome is very up and down, and I just overworked myself way too much recently and that's what's caused this latest setback (I was to the point where I could program for a few hours a day about a week ago, but then I worked 8 hours one day and that sort of sent me on a downward spiral).

Yeah, that is also my approach:
#LUKS encryption for data protection and a crappy-looking old #Thinkpad for theft protection 😁
Alright alright alright... I'm an idiot who's tech-literate enough to know I know very little I am waking up and realizing that I haaaaaaate not actually owning my tech. I'm thinking it's time I gird myself and give #linux a shot. I'm not a total masochist, so I'm thinking perhaps #LinuxMint or #Ubuntu (though that Amazon integration seems super gross to me), but most folks are saying I should pick up a used laptop before I start fucking with my primary machine, and I'm considering a #ThinkPad.
Assuming I'll be building a desktop sometime in the next 1-3 years, I want a laptop that is relatively portable, has a keyboard comfortable enough to support my growing writing habit, photo archiving/editing, can handle some gaming, mostly indie stuff (assuming my someday desktop will finally let me finish Doom 2016), and has a decent dock available for it to plug into my desktop peripherals (currently two monitors, a stereo, my film scanner, a couple of hard drives, keyboard, mouse). I have no coding experience, but have spent a little bit of time in Command Prompt when I was setting up my new phone, so I'm not too intimidated by the CLI, and as this will start off as a secondary device, I don't mind if I hit a few walls and have to work through obstacles.
My budget is <$250 (gonna need to save up for a bit), which seems to actually leave a pretty open playing field for used ThinkPads. I'm considering a t440p, but it seems rather long in the tooth, and like it's just the stock recommendation of fanboys, so if anyone has better insights, I am all ears.

On my #thinkpad x240 keyboard, the key "N" is getting less and less responsive. Should I...
Any of you #thinkpad nerds who can give a clue to what this might be. Maybe @rose or @bikeshed ?
It's an x260. Hoping for it to just be the cable but it seems to be glitching when i press the screen lightly or the frame just _above_ the affected area. 😖 😓 🥳
I don't like this. At all.
