Even though I'm technically from #Cologne, I never lived there, so I still feel like a tourist sometimes. It was so lovely showing my fiancé around because it made me feel more connected to the closest thing I have to a "hometown". :)

@jkirkendall Thank you for sharing that! I'm a third-culture kid as well (Indonesia) and lived through uncertain times there--although nothing quite as extreme.

I do remember at that time the US Embassy in Jakarta sent a warning to all expats to keep a low profile. Although nothing ensued during that time.

On this day in 1978, my family left Tehran for what we thought would be a few weeks break. We left to get away from the nightly strain of riots and shootings and fires, the lack of food in the store, the lack of safety on the streets.

When my dad died in 2015, we found this Christmas letter in his papers. It was written on December 6, 1978 from Tehran and it's description of the political turmoil, juxtaposed with his hope in the Christ Child, is sweetly haunting.

I was born in Los Angeles to a HK immigrant father and a Midwest-conservative Chinese mother. I spent many formative years with my Wuhan-born maternal grandmother as well. While the sounds and smells of my heritage are familiar, I feel cut off from true familiarity.

#Asian is a giant hashtag, but I often feel like a #ThirdCultureKid even though I don't think that I fully qualify as one.

I'm a #thirdculturekid (all grown up).

I've occasionally looked around to see if there are any #TCK communities, but never really found anything substantial.

I'm wondering if that's just intrinsically not the kind of community third culture kids would start or join.

Or maybe TCKs by definition are used to being spread over multiple communities and don't need another.

Being #ThirdCultureIndivdual means I spent my early childhood in Hong Kong, then high school/college years in the UK. Have been living and working in the US since 2001 and now have 2 #ThirdCultureKid myself.
