I proposed #ArnoldKling 's #ThreeLanguagesOfPolitics as an explanation: the left sees politics as a question of oppressor vs. oppressed; in the context of Israel, that tends to make one pro-Palestinian. Conservatives, according to Prof. Kling, see politics as civilisation vs. barbarism, so pro-Israel, anti-Hamas.
