We had a discussion this morning about reducing our sugar intake, and then this was my next podcast up. Eye-opening report on sugar, corn, and our need to cut both out of our lives.

I'm really loving this episode of about the . After How Underdeveloped Black , I will definitely start Black Against Empire, by Joshua Bloom & Waldo Martin. It's been languishing on the to-read list FAR too long!

The new NPR Throughline episode is pretty wild. It opens up deeply critical of the Robber Barons like JDR but then turns into a puff piece about the Gates Foundation. And it feels way outdated, like 2005.

With all the news, I remembered this episode I heard a while back, "The New Gilded Age". It relates to and the , and outlines the history and evolution of American .

It's 50 minutes, but please consider giving it a listen. Great background on how we got to where we are.

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle."

Frederick Douglass

's episode on starts with a boom.
