The TikTok ban is a distraction. And stories about Meta being the reason are also a smoke screen. The bill associated with all this, S.686 aka The RESTRICT Act is far broader reaching. Creating a Ministry of Truth...er... Dept of Communications, and giving the gov't free reign to hack any internet connected device. It's downright terrifying

I don't understand why people are still acting so casually about the eminent ban of TikTok in the US. People should be heading to the life boats, looking for a new replacement service, and making sure they can keep up with their people there. Did they not see the chaotic scramble we all went thru when Twitter started going to shit? We're still fragmented. Not even a quarter of the people I followed on 🐦 have migrated to Mastodon yet
