Giovanni Bellini (c. 1430-1516 CE) was an Italian Renaissance artist best known for his innovative use of colour, interest in light, and emphasis on brushwork. Today, Giovanni is recognised as the most innovative and influential of the Bellini family of painters and his works range from portraits to altarpieces. Masterpieces include the superbly detailed and naturalistic Ecstasy of Saint Franci...https://www.worldhistory.org/Giovanni_Bellini/ #AndreaMantegna #GiovanniBellini #Titian #History

But, it was his skill in #portrait #painting that caught the eye. Like #Titian and #Tintoretto he used colour to convey the character and emotion of his sitters, and he daubed rather than blending his oils to heighten the drama.
A friend and fellow #Artist wrote to his patron Alessandro Farnese in #Rome introducing the erudite #Greek.
Impressed, Alessandro sent El Greco an invitation. He accepted and left #Venice to start the next chapter of his life in the Eternal City.

5/ Venice was El Greco's university. He was a good pupil, bright and quick witted.
He loved #Titian, now 77 and working more intensely than ever. It's possible he worked in his workshop such did he learn to balance a composition using colour. So very Venice.
Tintoretto inspired, too, with his muscular figures and dramatic gestures to convey energy, and his bold use of perspective. No wonder he was called "The Furious"
El Greco lapped it up. Artistically, he came of age.
We live in a strange world where the #NationalGallery have to #censor #Titian’s Bacchus and Ariadne (1522–1523) to place an educational video on #Instagram. #Art #MastoArt #painting @Curator

4/ From an early age Doménikos could paint. As successful merchants D's family could afford to nurture his talent.
By 22 he was a master in the Guild of painters with his own workshop producing traditional post-Byzantine icons. D started mixing the Eastern tradition with new ideas from the West. His reputation grew such that these could fetch as much as a #Titian 😮
Aged 26 and as a successful artist he passaged to Venice, the centre of the painterly world.

My Wordle score as the number of people in a painting. Today it's another interpretation of 'Supper at Emmaus' this time by Titian who has caught on the disciples’ faces their amazement and dawning recognition of Christ’s identity. Characteristically Titian has manipulated the twilight shadows, glowing colours and soft evening light to focus on Christ’s steady gaze, directed at the elderly pilgrim, traditionally identified as the Apostle Peter.
I exhibited a set of painting I made developed from blown-up radiographs of flecks of paint from Titian's art, under the title 'Unseen Landscapes'. The different layers of paint show up and look like bumpy landscapes. The top layer is different in colour to the other layers that Titian has used. Each colour will affect the next layer he has put on. #art #Titian #paintings#prints #monoprints #textile art #Islamic art

In this painting by Tiziano Vecellio, better known as #Titian, Venus attempts to prevent Adonis from going on a hunt, as she fears he will be killed. Cupid seems concerned as he looks at the lovers. #LOVE #RingsFivePassionsInWorldArt #FineArt
