says that there's a long history of British people getting breathlessly excited about maglev trains. Yes, but that's 20th century history. Old Tomorrows World from the 1970s to 1990s.

In the 21st century, in contrast, there's instead a fairly long history of British people scornfully looking at monorails, maglevs, ekranoplans, and the like, making references to Concorde, and predicting that it will never happen.

[1992] Tomorrow's World - Judith Hann demonstrates a new cassette incorporating metal tape, that contains music which has been converted into digital code. When the tape is played on a compatible tape deck, the digital code is converted back into music, producing excellent sound quality with none of the audio degradation associated with existing pre-recorded cassettes. Is this the future?

[1967] Tomorrow's World - Derek Cooper reports on Europe's first home computer terminal. Installed into the home of industrial consultant Rex Malik, it includes an electric typewriter and can send and receive messages, update his diary and check his bank balance. Even his four-year-old son Nicholas can use it to work out basic maths problems. Can we expect a computer like this in every home in the future? Time will tell.

[1966] Tomorrow's World - Human beings, with their ridiculous "emotions" and their limited processing power, are fundamentally ill-equipped for a task as complex as finding a romantic partner. Only a mighty computer - like the Honeywell 200 - with its infallible logic and ability to cope with dozens of variables, is up to the job.
