Hello and good day fellow #TootCat comrades. In about 30 minutes after the current databass backup completes we'll be upgrading to the latest glitch version. Minimal downtime expected ๐ค๐ผ
#tootcat humans please be prepared for potential weirdness during an upgrade thing ๐ ๏ธ (now-ish)
I had no idea that there was no :hugging:โ emoji on Masto by default.
I've remedied that for #TootCat, at least. Feel free to copy. I believe the one I'm using is the Twitspace version; there are many other variants.
@meatballhat is about to run an update on #TootCat. Please remember to place the oxygen mask on yourself before attempting to assist others. The rapidly-approaching trees are no cause for alarm. You will be informed in the event of non-survival. :tootcat:โ
Maybe we should have a rule on #TootCat that if an account looks like it's got a commercial angle, it needs to link to a web site which also links back to the account here. That way we know they're not just spamming fedi with accounts in order to get more eyeballs.
Also, they do need to respond to hails.
So, a day or few ago #tootCat's admin @viv noted that search has been enabled.
I've just been playing around with that, and ... on first impressions it's lurvely!
I quite often search/mine my own content, or past conversations, which is what this offers and hence fits the bill quite nicely.
So, I'm trying to fix #HubCat, finally...
...and the problem I run into is that CertBot seems to want me to create a DNS TXT
record for the domain "_acme-challenge.hub.toot.cat" -- but DigOc won't let me create a TXT
record where the subdomain starts with an underscore (see screenshot).
Any ideas on how to resolve this?

We're going to be attempting an upgrade of #TootCat's NixOS distro shortlyish. There may be an interruption in service, but we'll do our best to bap it off the table quickly if one shows up. :kestraglow:โ
@CassandraZeroCovid #MastodonCloud behaved very poorly here. That was my instance at the time (@dredmorbius@mastodon.cloud, now forwarded here), and the WilW episode was astrong factor in my decision to ultimately move elsewhere.
#TootCat is run by someone I've known for a decade or so online via Google+ and elsewhere, and whose social and epistemic awareness is extraordinary, @woozle.
Edit: tyoped URL.
I never felt like I was part of a community with #twitter. #mastodon (And, of course, #TootCat ) feels so organic and so real. Like how awesome is it that I'm actually engaging with people instead of just trying to avoid people just selling books everywhere?
Not saying is wrong for anyone to promote whatever you do, that's awesome, but that should only be part of it. Maybe is not the platform, maybe its just me doing something different.
#TootCat is apparently harmful to billionaire freeze-peach absolutists.
I feel seen. ๐
