Hello everyone. I'm back on the Fediverse after several months' absence. I'll probably be investing a lot more time and energy into this platform since it seems like Twitter is no longer a viable medium for art (my engagement plummeted the moment Elon Musk took control, and he's been fucking with the algorithm so much it's impossible to devise a good strategy, since I'm completely in the dark). I've mostly been on DeviantArt recently, but I thought I'd spread out.

Oh yeah I switched to Metatext on iOS instead of the official app and I gotta say this is by far a much better tooting experience (I’m never not gonna find that word funny :eeveecoffee:) and I’m probably gonna stick with it. The official app is very well made but this just has enough more for me to prefer it, mostly anyways.

My better half, who has been on The Elephant Place a full two days longer than I have and is therefore the household expert, informs me that I must do my first Toot. I, of course, made a bad joke as is required when somebody uses the word Toot, and on her advice, I perform this solemn task.

I can recommend the Tusky app for using mastodon. It seems much more intuitive than the official app or the website. #TootToot #Tusky

@cwebber That guy is @janboehm@mastodon.social / @janboehm@edi.social who is the main host of a popular german satire show. He joined the fedi last week and to "celebrate" that, there where these mastodon logos in the shows opening.(as well as some other things, like the #TootToot hashtag)

Hatte ehrlich gesagt eben für 10 Minuten vergessen, dass es Mastodon gibt. 👎 War direkt mega schlecht drauf. 👎👎 Könnte auch an den anderen "SOZIALEN" (❓) Netzwerken liegen, in die ich eben mal kurz geillert habe. 👎👎👎 Aber ⚠️⚠️⚠️ Entwarnung! So I guess this is the rebirth of the free and open Internet.

Okay, so I'm still going to use Twitter part-time because it still has a lot of reach, but I'm also moving to Mastodon to adapt to and take advantage of the influx of people moving from Twitter. I honestly have no objection to Elon Musk owning Twitter. If turning it into a free speech platform is what it takes to get people to move away from Big Tech and onto more open platforms that are resistant to government censorship and monopoly control, then I fully support what's happening. Whatever works, you know? I just think it's weird that that's where people draw the line. Like, they're okay with Twitter collecting data on them and selling it to anyone willing to pay for it, but when Twitter stops censoring anti-establishment opinions, that's when they boycott the platform. Whatever. Doesn't bother me. I'm just glad people are embracing the open web a la Web 3.0, even if they're doing it for the wrong reasons.
