Does anyone have any idea how much time/developer effort it would take to fork Tootle GTK by @bleakgrey and update it to fully support Mastodon 4.x features + bugfix?

Could we conceivably crowd-fund this? There are an absolute wealth of React/JS Mastodon clients, so something using a Linux desktop-native toolkit that integrates cleanly with the DE/WM is something increidbly unique.

I’ve been using six #Mastodon apps.
- web app, for a short time in the beginning
- #Tootle and I don’t remember exactly what features it was missing
- in the meanwhile I start using #tootTui CLI app
- #Toot! my first paid app
- Finally #Metatext came and I was delighted
- But then #Mastodon official app also came to iOS, and I was thinking that it will be the best choice
And now I’m changing my mind. Official app isn’t so good, and the web app isn’t too worse from native apps.

This is nice that I can customize colors of #tootle on #ios but #metatext is so much more stable! This crashes even when going to the donation page! 😂

@karenlmasters except I don’t like the notifications page much in #tootle. Will see if I get used to it.

Since you all say third party apps better for #mastodon on iPhone I’m trying #tootle. The format of apostrophe ‘ seems odd - otherwise a step up.

For instance : accentuated characters sometimes shows the escape codes like ' for single quote...

Can I ask what app or interface #Twitter refugees and #Mastodon newbies like me are using, specifically on iPhone and iPad? I am liking #tootle because I can save hashtag tab. But, the apostrophes coming up in gibberish is killing me.

@aquarius I am noticing it turns apostrophes into their escaped ' selves. I guess if it hasn’t been supported in 2 years, its character encoding is gonna be a bit wonky. #tootle

@AlexSanterne I’m using several, apart from the official one. I’m writing this with #Tootle, and sometimes I use #Toot. On the Mac I use #Mastonaut. Still taking stock of what I like most in each one.

ok so I got #Whalebird for my old #Macbook air running #Ubuntu. so far it seems to be functioning perfectly. on #ipadOS i have #Tootle. On #Android I switch between official #Mastodon app and the #Brave browser web interface. \

I tried #Metatext client. It seems be better than #Tootle (it’s nice, but has some suspicious feature for playing music toots with clipboard reading) and #Toot! (it’s also nice, but it costs a bit, and it’s too colorful). Metatext is also the only one client which is open source.
