Great Albums – 1970s: #TootsAndTheMaytals – #FunkyKingston (1975). This revamped US version of Funky Kingston (the original 73 version is also on Spotify) reaffirmed The Maytals as Jamaica’s *other* definitive band. The LP adds earlier tracks like “Time Tough” and “Pressure Drop” to an eclectic mix including covers of Richard Berry’s “Louie Louie” and John Denver’s “Country Road” (which really works). Toots Hibbert was Jamaica’s Otis Redding.
