Signed up for #TraceLabs "Global OSINT Search Party - 2023.02". I'm a learning by doing person, so I hope I can help out while learning. Tacked on the course too, so I have something to listen the next couple of weeks.

We are happy to announce our next CTF (Search Party)!

If you are a fan of owls, particularly of superb owls, we will be having our next TraceLabs OSINT Search Party on Saturday, 11 Feb. Just before the Superb Owl Sunday.

We will be putting out more information on what work needs to be done and any calls for volunteers. We will have the standard call for judges, but we may also have calls for other roles such as reporting.

All are welcome to participate (owl fan or not), more details will be released over the coming weeks. Mark you calendar and spread the word!

Formal introduction seems fitting… I’m Alethe - sounds like “A Lethal Weapon” - and is pronounced like ‘Uh-Lee-th’

I cofounded and ran an IT MSP and now co-own a VoIP Phone service company that exclusively serves Business clients.

I currently work for Bishop Fox 🦊 as a Senior Security Consultant on the Red Team - and leave the day to day of the phone company to my partner.

Prior to that I worked for Critical Insight, an MDR focused security company geared towards Critical Infrastructure, where I was a Security Consultant.

I was formerly in Market Intelligence on the consulting team at a global staffing company, a Title Officer at a national Title Insurance and Escrow company, a Social Media manager, online content and community manager for a software startup, a manager for a massive telecommunications company, and a variety of other odd jobs in SEO, SEM, PPC and even website development.

In 2016 I attended DEF CON 24 and fell in love with it - in 2019 I won the Social Engineer Capture the Flag contest on my second attempt and received a black badge from #DEFCON at DEF CON 27.

The next year, my team and I won the #TraceLabs Black Badge in the Missing Persons OSINT CTF snagging first place. And the year after that, I won the official DEF CON 29 Sticker contest. For DEF CON 30, my sticker was second place haha - I like contests.

I don’t share a bunch about me personally but I’m married - very happily - for over 15 years. I have four young kids. I’m friendly, but I do not appreciate flirtation and anything that crosses a line gets called out.

TraceLabs.org is a cool concept, a platform that crowdsources the search for real missing persons. But I shuddered during one bit in this FreeThink video on the project. When the founder implied its ok that lots of personally identifiable information about our potential location is publicly available online, because it can be used to find us if we go missing. Sure, but for lots of other reasons too ...
